Bunker Hill, 1956*

EARLIER THIS year, I posted some video from Kent MacKenzie’s beautiful Bunker Hill-based documentary, “The Exiles.” Now, my latest interview subject just sent this along. MacKenzie’s thesis film, Bunker Hill, 1956.It’s a poignant time capsule of vanished L.A. I screened for my students last semester and it was memorable — a source of inspiration and conversation. It’s worth just sitting down and peering at — imagining what was there and what is not.

*Kevin Roderick, over at L.A. Observed, reports that Vimeo has taken the video down due to copyright infringement. Too bad. Hopefully, it will appear here once again. It’s a beautiful love letter.
