“A Blue, Flat Place: Los Angeles”

THE FRENCH take us on with expected results.

This three-minute murky clip is from a longer documentary that takes on some of the major L.A. tropes — sprawl, city of the future, etc. What’s great about this little glimpse, however, is that it’s a mid-blink look at Los Angeles as it winds toward its last big change, the one that seemed to pretty much sweep away so much of its “outpost” feel.

It’s very cyan — cool and detached — in it’s physical presentation — and consequently that’s how you ultimately feel about the city as well.

Someone else’s city, not my own.
