Lynell George
I’m an L.A.-based journalist/essayist. My deep roots are in newspapers, as a longtime staff writer for both the Los Angeles Times and L.A. Weekly. I slink about covering arts & culture (music, books, visual art in particular), human behavior, L.A. history and the city’s changing sense of self. I am the author of No Crystal Stair: African Americans in the City of Angels (Verso/Doubleday) and After/Image: Los Angeles Outside the Frame (Angel City Press). My latest book A Handful of Earth, A Handful of Sky: The World of Octavia E. Butler from Angel City Press, was a Hugo Award finalist in 2021.
And yes, I am an L.A. native. Really.
